Free Australian planning tool
Map the Australian places your business can genuinely serve.
Choose a suburb, Postal Area or whole state, then build separate coverage lists for local SEO, campaigns, sales and service planning.
The planner turns Australian Bureau of Statistics geography into a practical starting point. Use it to define a market before deciding which locations deserve pages, advertising, sales coverage or operational investment.

01 / Use cases
Use one coverage map to answer several business questions.
Start with the places your business can reach, then decide where marketing, sales and operations should focus.
Local SEO
Research viable location pages and internal linking before writing copy.
Paid campaigns
Build a geographic targeting list that matches the area the business can serve.
Sales territories
Give sales teams clear postcode or suburb coverage for prospecting and handoff.
Service delivery
Compare stated coverage with staffing, travel, fulfilment and response capacity.
Expansion research
Shortlist places that deserve deeper demand and competitor analysis.
A service area is useful when it changes a decision. The same mapped coverage can help a search team plan location content, a media buyer set geographic targeting, a sales leader divide territories or an operations team test whether a new market is practical.
02 / Outputs
Take the result into the tools your team already uses.
Copy a clean list or download separate CSV files for Postal Areas and suburbs.
The result is designed for handoff. Use Postal Areas when the next system works with postcode coverage. Use suburbs when people, search behaviour or local proof are organised around named places. Radius mode helps with local reach. Whole-state mode supports broader territory planning.
03 / Geography
Postcodes and suburbs describe related geography, not the same thing.
A postcode can contain several named places, while a suburb can share a postcode with neighbouring localities.
Australian postcodes support mail delivery. ABS Postal Areas approximate postcode geography for statistical use. Suburbs and localities are named places with their own recognised boundaries. Combining both into one flat list creates duplicates and hides the relationship. The planner maps them against the same coverage, then lets you inspect and export each view separately.
Use the Postal Area list for postcode-based systems. Use the suburb list when the name of the place matters to the customer or the decision.
04 / Method
A consistent planning estimate is more useful than false precision.
Radius mode uses straight-line distance. State mode uses official simplified ASGS boundaries.
Straight-line distance gives every place the same comparable rule and keeps the calculation fast in the browser. It does not model roads, ferries, traffic, mountains, delivery windows or staff capacity. Whole-state mode follows Australian Statistical Geography Standard boundaries. Both modes are starting points for planning, not official service guarantees.
Validate the shortlist against real travel time, delivery rules and operating capacity before publishing a service promise.
05 / Examples
The same geography supports different operating models.
Choose the output according to how the business sells, delivers and proves local relevance.
A useful service area does not look identical for every company. A field-service team may care about travel and response time. A B2B team may need account ownership. A logistics business may start with postcode rules. A multi-location brand may need to find gaps between existing sites.
Field services
Shortlist suburbs, then check travel time, schedules and response limits.
B2B sales
Export territories for prospect lists, account ownership and regional reporting.
Delivery and fulfilment
Start with Postal Areas, then apply fees, cut-off times and carrier constraints.
Multi-location growth
Compare branch coverage and identify places that need stronger local evidence.
06 / Local SEO
A suburb list is not permission to publish hundreds of thin pages.
A location deserves a page only when the business can serve it and the page can answer a distinct local need.
Use the export as a research queue. Check whether people search for the service in that place, whether the offer is commercially viable, whether the business has genuine local evidence and whether the page would add information beyond replacing a suburb name. Group weak or overlapping intent into stronger regional pages.
- Can we serve it?Confirm the real operating boundary and response standard.
- Is there demand?Check search behaviour, enquiries and commercial opportunity.
- Can we prove it?Use relevant projects, knowledge, reviews or service evidence.
- Is the intent distinct?Avoid pages that differ only by the place name.
- Where does it link?Connect the page to services, proof, insights and the next action.
07 / Questions
Questions about Australian service-area planning.
The planner is built for practical market research, with clear limits around boundaries and operations.
Are these official postcode boundaries?
No. ABS Postal Areas approximate postcodes. They are not delivery boundaries.
Why are postcodes and suburbs separate?
They overlap but are not one hierarchy. Separate exports prevent duplication.
Can I map a whole state or territory?
Yes. State mode uses simplified official ASGS state and territory geometry.
Does the tool send my searches to Fatbunny?
No. Search and coverage calculations run locally in your browser.
Should every suburb become an SEO page?
No. Publish only when capacity, demand, evidence and distinct intent justify it.
From map to market
Turn geographic coverage into a governed growth plan.
Connect the shortlist to demand, page ownership, local proof, conversion and measurement.
Fatbunny can turn the exported area into a practical local SEO and growth system. We pressure-test which places deserve investment, what each page must prove, how the pages link and how enquiries move into the next commercial step.
